Bronx-native Dalaisé Hickey is the creator of BabyDonna, a sunscreen specifically created for Black and brown kids.
Hickey, struggled for years to find sunscreen for her children. When her daughter was born with eczema, Hickey struggled to find sunscreen that didn't irritate or leave white streaks on her skin.
After researching, and asking friends for reccomendations, Hickey could not find many options.
"It was mind boggling when I found out, you know, like over ten years later, there really were still no options for like Black and brown children," Hickey said.
That was what inspired her to start her company, BabyDonna, a mineral sunscreen stick that goes up to SPF 35.
The company's name was inspired by Hickey's mother Sheryl Donna, who passed away in 2018.
Hickey says starting a business has been a rewarding journey.
"I meet other parents who have been going through the same struggle and they're like, oh my gosh, I've been looking for a product like this for years. It really helps to give that affirmation of like, you know, this was all worth it," she said.
