Bronx resident Youssouf Keita says he's been without his 2018 Honda Accord since Jan 5.
That's when the NYPD towed his car for expired registration.
“I feel like I’m being bullied by the system, granted my paperwork wasn’t right but I got it right the next day," said Keita.
According to 311, his car was in Brooklyn at Clutch Towing. He says he traveled over an hour to get it, and was told it would be $630.
“I’m like $630 is crazy but alright give me a receipt so I can know what’s going on," said Keita.
He says he never got an itemized receipt, instead the worker offered him a deal.
“He tells us he’s willing to give us the car for $430 but with no receipt," said Keita.
Keita and his wife declined the deal, and they came back the next day.
“We came back the next day; he tells us look I don’t want to do business with you guys. I’m going to return your car to the NYPD once I get the release papers," said Keita.
But Keita says that never happened. When he reaches out to the NYPD they say they don't have it.
News 12 spoke with Clutch Towing over the phone, and they said they gave the car back to NYPD and it's at their Springfield lot.
News 12 contacted the NYPD to confirm but has not heard back.
