Broken elevators caused a headache for some Paterson senior citizens on Monday.
Nearly 200 senior citizens live at the Joseph Masiello Apartments on Atlantic Street. The building has just two elevators. For hours, dozens struggled to get into or out of their apartments.
One elevator has been offline for about two months. The other broke on Monday and was brought back online hours later.
The Paterson Housing Authority, which owns the building says they're working to fix the issue.
Residents living in the 13-story building say it's more than just the broken elevators that make senior living more difficult there. Residents say heat and hot water have been working on and off. Many have complained about the back doors that have been blocked off for about two months, leaving only two other exits to the building.
According to the housing authority, the structure needs a lot of work. They plan to hire a contractor, which they hope will happen next week. They say a cable required for the elevator has been ordered and once they hire a contractor, the infrastructure work will take about six months.
