Residents up and down the Jersey Shore spent the day cleaning up after this weekend's nor'easter, removing damaged belongings and clearing water from their homes. In Brigantine, Gov. Mikie Sherrill was on the ground surveying the damage. But for many residents, the biggest concern is the condition of the beach. The storm caused significant beach erosion, raising fears about future access to the shoreline and the community’s ability to recover. Residents say they hope beach replenishment efforts can restore the shoreline and bring things back to normal. The governor says the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection surveyed beaches before and during the storm. Those assessments will help determine what recovery and restoration efforts are needed.

She is also reminding residents whose homes were impacted to take photos of the damage for their insurance companies. As for federal assistance, the governor says the state has not requested it yet, but that remains an option as crews continue assessing the storm’s impact.
