A Bridgeport police cruiser sat in front of a house in the 200-block of Black Rock Avenue Wednesday night, a full 24 hours after a woman was found there, bleeding in the street and later dying from her injuries.
Police were alerted to the scene when a caller reported "an abandoned infant" on the front porch of a house, police said.
"We are working the case and developing several important leads -- and we are making progress," said Detective Jeffrey Holtz, of the Bridgeport Police Department.
Police have identified the victim as 24-year-old Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, of Bridgeport.
The infant was taken to the hospital and found to be unharmed, police said.
Anyone who can help police track down the suspect is asked to call 203-576-TIPS.
