Thousands of spectators lined the parade route along 5th Avenue in Brentwood during Sunday’s Puerto Rican & Hispanic Day Parade.
"Today is a special day for us,” said Sergio Colon, of Brentwood.
This year marked the 59th annual celebration of Puerto Rican culture.
"We are so happy to open the door for our brothers and sisters in Latin America," added organizer Margarita Espada
Dozens of school marching bands, community groups, local leaders and first responders marched in the parade. Participants say the event is their way of showing support for Puerto Rico and the Brentwood community.
Organizers said the parade is the largest multi-cultural celebration on Long Island.
