A 21-year-old man from Branchburg has died following a violent two-vehicle collision that left a major roadway closed for several hours Wednesday evening.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on April 15, 2026, on New Road near the intersection of Route 1 South.
According to preliminary reports from the South Brunswick Police Department, a 2017 Toyota Camry was attempting to make a left turn from the Route 1 South off-ramp onto New Road when it struck a 2025 Audi Q5 traveling westbound.
The impact caused the driver of the Audi to lose control, resulting in the vehicle overturning.
Police state the 21-year-old driver was ejected from the Audi during the rollover.
Medical teams rushed to the scene to provide aid. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, but he later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced deceased.
New Road was shut down for approximately five hours following the collision. During that time, emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage while investigators processed the scene.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the crash.
