Borough President Antonio Reynoso held a deed theft prevention workshop at Medgar Evers College on Tuesday night.

The Attorney General's Office defines deed theft as, "when a thief takes the title to a home without the homeowner's knowledge or approval."

News 12 spoke to two Brooklyn homeowners who say they fought to get the deed to their home back for at least a decade, after becoming victims of deed theft.

Brooklyn legal services says some of the most common scams include refinancing, scams, equity stripping and foreclosure bail out loans.

Borough President Antonio Reynoso says some of his goals to further prevent the theft is to extend the statute of limitations for look back from two years to six years and increasing accessibility to legal services.
