November is Puerto Rican Heritage Month, and an exhibit at Boricua College is showcasing artwork that puts several facets of Puerto Rican culture in the spotlight.  

The exhibit came as a collaboration between the college and the Bronx Hispanic Festival. It focuses on highlighting important issues and everyday life in the Puerto Rican community.  

Jose Rafael Velazquez was a part of the curator team that helped put together the exhibit, but is also an artist with some of his own work on display.  

“The artwork may show different stages of their lives as an individual, as a member of the community, but as an artist as well,” said Velazquez. “They show all the retrospectives, different changes they are going through.” 

Curators say each piece of artwork was done by a local artist, with many of them being born and raised in the Bronx. The exhibit is open through Dec. 7 and is completely free.
