Boil water advisory issued due to Haledon water main break
A water main break at an intersection in Haledon has prompted a boil water advisory for Manchester Utilities Authority customers.
The break occurred on Belmont Avenue between Haledon and Bushmann avenues. According to the Haledon Police Department, crews from Manchester Utilities Authority are on the scene working to repair the issue. The authority says many customers may be experiencing low or no water pressure. As a result, they've issued a boil water advisory.
"A potential or actual threat to the quality of water being provided to you currently exists," Manchester Utilities Authority said in a statement. "As a precaution, we are implementing a boil water advisory until testing of the water supply is deemed satisfactory."
Officials say any residents who are currently experiencing little or no water pressure should follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and use bottled water for drinking, cooking, food preparation and brushing their teeth.
According to police, fresh drinking water is available at the Haledon Senior Center, which is also currently being used as a warming center.
"Residents wishing to use this service are asked to check in first at the Haledon Police Department," police said in a social media post.
The Manchester Utilities Authority did not say how long repairs are expected to take.
