A Dutchess County teenager died after police officers opened fire while responding to a person in distress near the Wappingers Creek Bridge in Wappingers Falls, according to newly released body camera video from the New York State Attorney General's Office.
The video shows officers responding to the scene in June and spending about 50 minutes trying to communicate with a 17-year-old who was holding a knife.
Investigators say the teen later stood up and moved toward officers while still holding the knife. Multiple officers then opened fire.
The teen was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The Attorney General's Office says the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
