A major Newark landmark could soon have a new name.

Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-10) has introduced a bill to rename Newark Penn Station in honor of the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr.

The proposal would change the name to "The Donald M. Payne Jr. Transit Center at Newark Penn Station."

McIver introduced the measure Tuesday on what would have been Payne's 67th birthday.

The move recognizes Payne's Newark roots and his leadership in Congress.
