A Hackensack man is facing multiple drug and animal cruelty charges after police executed a search warrant at his apartment and recovered suspected drugs and drug distribution materials, authorities said.

The Hackensack Police Department said Ramarr Pannell-Bishop, 38, was arrested following an investigation that began after complaints from a concerned citizen were submitted through Crime Stoppers.

Police said officers executed a search warrant Aug. 3 at Pannell-Bishop's apartment on Second Street, across from Carver Park and near public housing. Investigators said they recovered a digital scale, drug distribution paraphernalia, oxycodone, ecstasy, Xanax, promethazine, Adderall and marijuana packaged for street-level sales.

Authorities said four caged dogs were also found without food or water. Bergen County Animal Control took custody of the animals.

Police said Pannell-Bishop was being held on an unrelated arrest pending his initial court appearance in Hackensack.

He is charged with multiple offenses including distribution of prescription legend drugs, distribution of narcotics within 500 feet of public housing, distribution of narcotics near a school zone, distribution of scheduled narcotics, distribution of marijuana, distribution of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property related to prescription medications in another person's name, animal cruelty and animal abuse.
