Fette Sau, a longtime favorite barbecue restaurant in Williamsburg, is closing its doors after nearly two decades.
Owner Joe Carroll opened the restaurant in 2007 in a former mechanic’s garage on Metropolitan Avenue.
The spot quickly became a neighborhood staple, drawing locals and travelers.
The closure was announced on social media, sparking an outpouring of comments from regulars and customers from all over the globe.
Many shared memories and thanked the restaurant.
“It’s been pretty emotional reading a lot of that stuff,” Carroll said. “I really love it, but it’s also sometimes tough because it really makes me sad that it is closing.”
Carroll said business had slowed before the pandemic and declined sharply afterward, ultimately leading to the decision to shut down.
Fette Sau will serve its final meals on Dec. 21. The restaurant’s Philadelphia location will remain open.
