A community is beginning the long road to recovery after a fire ripped through a three-story building in Flatbush, but one small silver lining is bringing comfort to many - the deli cat survived.
Lisa, a cat known and loved by customers at Marino Rodriguez’s deli, was missing following the fire.
The store owner and others searched frantically until she was finally found safe.
“She’s good! She’s very good,” Rodriguez said. “She was hidden in the back but we found her!”
FDNY officials say five people and four officers suffered minor injuries during the fire.
A full vacate order has since been posted on the building, causing all residents to leave.
The Red Cross is currently assisting two displaced families, including seven adults and four children.
Rodriguez says while the damage is extensive, he hopes to reopen the deli soon.
