A sailboat caught fire near Belle Island in Long Island Sound on Sunday afternoon, according to the Norwalk Fire Department. Flames heavily involved the stern of the vessel, and the occupants were brought to safety by the Norwalk Police Marine Division before firefighters arrived.
Fire crews began suppression efforts on the water, with marine units from the Noroton Fire Department and the Darien Police Department assisting due to the intensity of the fire.
Once the flames were knocked down using boat-mounted pumps and hose streams, the vessel was towed to Norwalk Cove Marina. Firefighters met the boat at the dock to check for hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported.
The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause.
