Residents are in shock today after finding out their beloved community fish pond was cemented over news from Jody Juliana Powell joining us from the old pond where community members have laid out flowers and candles to mourn their community aquarium. Residents say the pond was cemented over last night. They sneaked in when nobody was here and did this caution tape. Now surrounds where the pond once was and news, 12 crews observed an environmental protection police car who stood watch over the drying sidewalk all day long and this was a nice little thing that brought delight to everybody who ever saw it. Wednesday, we were told that the pond would be revamped after being destroyed. And today the fish gone and the pond cemented over all that's left are the signs for the used to be beds aquarium that brought this community together. It was completely aggressive and uncalled for. I wish they even notified our office about it. Brooklynites are confused by not only the loss of the pond but how long it has taken for the sidewalk to be fixed, which is how the pond was formed in the first place. This was like that 17 years. It was broken like that if not 20 just now fixing this, I know two people with lawsuits from springing their ankles and they didn't fix it. Even then the Department of Environmental Protection tells us in a statement, the sidewalk and fire hydrant were fixed to ensure community safety. They say they want to work with the community to find an alternate location for the pond like in a community garden in the neighborhood in Bed Stuy Jody, Juliana Powell News 12 Brooklyn.

Brooklynites getting quite the surprise when they saw the now famous community. Goldfish pond dried up and shut down. News tells Daniela Rodriguez tells us how this all happened and what's happening with the pond now. And a dripping hydrant is what Brooklynites on Hancock street say brought them together back in August. But there was some confusion today when the FDNY came to fix the leaky hydrant, leaving the pond all dried up and some visitors disappointed I live on the coast of Maine and he was telling me about this. So we came to see it and it's not here, but it's ok because we are getting the first look of the redesigned process for the new pond. They're digging a deeper hole. So the fish have more room to swim and adding decorations like this one. Soon enough, these fish will be living large. That going to be really exciting is going to be so many fish. Yes. Brooklynites in the neighborhood say that despite the brief shutdown, there are no hard feelings. We have a lot of supporters within the FDNY too. They came by today and some of them apologized. So I think there was just someone that didn't get the memo or something for. Now, the community says their hope is for people to be inspired from the Goldfish pond and make their own micro parks in their neighborhood. I hope it outlives me. I hope it outlives me and hodge and everyone else on the corner and I hope it's just a permanent institution for New York. As for when the pond gets its new look. Stay tuned. So good and bedside. Unity pond now known as the Beu Aquarium is back open today after it was vandalized. News twelve's Julia Burns joins us with what people say this pond means to the neighborhood magic because it's like a little form of magic in the city that like everything is so like logical and practical. So you know, it just makes everyone a kid again. Magic. That's what people like. Dang Shah say this little fish pond has brought here. But last night people tell me someone tried to take it away. They vandalized the pond, breaking decorations and killing some of the fish in this world. We need kindness, we need happiness and togetherness. And if you look behind me, you can actually see some of those rebuilding efforts going on. I spoke with community members on why the Bed Stuy Aquarium means so much to them. It is so much more. I bring a lot of people together, every race, every color kids, people from all over the world. That's why I'm going to keep it up. I'm not gonna disappoint them. People tell me they may start having cameras with them when they watch over the pond. They tell me. They don't plan on filing a police report. They say sometimes the best revenge is resilience. You're picking yourself up. You're, you're showing people that you can't tear us down no matter how hard you try. And they say they're turning pain into love and have a message for the Vandals. Story out of bed Stuy that is bound to get you hooked. People in the neighborhood are at odds tonight over a do it yourself. Fish pond. Here's news twelve's Karina Gehry. What a sight here. Right on the street. A fire hydrant, a makeshift pond and goldfish. That's right. Bright orange, lively, goldfish. It was totally whimsical and that's something I love about this neighborhood. Someone called 911. These little fish need to be rescued. No, only in New York. Right. Exactly. Crown Heights resident Max David and an unnamed accomplice pulling off fish gate in the dead of the night to save of all things goldfish. But how did these little guys get here in the first place? Isn't a marine biologist to know that fish don't belong in a puddle. And no, this is not your mother's fish bowl for one. The water is being supplied by the hydrant here at the intersection of Hancock and Tompkins Floria is burning their gills and it's very harmful to them. Max was able to save about 30 fish and we decided the best course of action was to go make it quick in and out and get a bunch of fish as many fish as we possibly could. But by this morning, a puzzle, more than 20 additional fish were back swimming around, mystery solved. The fish were bought by a group of friends, including Hajj Malik. I want to make sure it's just people could come to the community and see better things and be thankful to live here. He and his friends monitor the fish 24 7 and feed them and we just feed it and clean it out and we just want to make it better. The DE shut off the hydrant. But less than two hours later, someone turned it back on a spokesperson for the DE says the de loves goldfish too, but hydrants should be left alone. But for now this street corner is a popular place for fish fans in beds. Karina Gary news. Well, Brooklyn.
