A bear in West Milford proved smarter than the average bear when it opened a car door and wandered onto a nearby deck over the weekend.

Video sent in by a viewer shows the animal walking up to the parked vehicle and opening the driver's side door.

The bear then made itself comfortable on the deck.

Officials remind residents never to feed or approach bears in the wild.
