The Plainfield Police Department says the bear wandered into the next town at around 8 p.m.
On Thursday, some schools in Plainfield were briefly placed on a shelter-in-place due to the bear.
There are no restrictions currently in place.
Police were working with New Jersey Fish and Wildlife to ensure its safety.
