The parents of an infant who died in March have been arrested and formally charged with aggravated manslaughter. According to Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, the 2-month-old was brought to Bayonne Medical Center with injuries on March 25. He was then transferred to University Hospital in Newark, where he died. The prosecutor said a medical examiner determined the cause of death was complications from blunt-force injuries to the head. The baby’s death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. On Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office announced that the infant’s parents — Jason Megaro, 27, of Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, and Jenae Vasquez, 20, of the Bronx, New York — were arrested. The arrests followed a grand jury indictment charging them in connection with the death of their son. Megaro was arrested in Pennsylvania, and Vasquez was arrested in New York. Both were charged with aggravated manslaughter and will remain in custody pending extradition to New Jersey.
