Family, friends and community members gathered at St. Peter's Park baseball field to honor the memory of 19-year-old Masi Rogers, who died last Thursday after getting shot during a multiple shooting in Newark.
The message from the community at the field was loud and clear: Stop the violence.
Rogers' former high school teacher remembered him as a positive force.
"Great kid, respectful kid, you know always had a smile on his face," Bashir Akinyele.
The shooting happened near Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street on Nov. 15. Rogers was one of the five struck by gunfire. He spent several days in critical condition at University Hospital.
Among those killed was also 10-year-old Jordan Garcia and 21-year-old woman Kia Mae Scott. Garcia's 11-year-old brother has since been released from the hospital. Sheppard Miller, 60, remains hospitalized.
A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest.
