We now know one of the victims injured in last weekend's shooting in Newark has died sadly. The Essex County prosecutor's office tells News 12 Massey Rogers was pronounced dead Thursday. The shooting broke out last Saturday night near Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street. Rogers was one of the 5 people shot. A 10-year-old boy and 21-year-old woman were also killed. Police are still searching for a suspect. A $10,000 reward is being offered leading to an arrest. Tomorrow the community will honor the 19 year old. The Newark Pop Warner League is holding a balloon release at 5 p.m. Monday for Massey Rogers at Saint Peter's Park on Lyons Avenue.

Well tonight a community in Newark is grieving the loss of a young life from gun violence. Family, friends, and teammates remembering 10 year old Jordan Garcia. News 12 New Jersey's Tom Krasnowski reports. He was supposed to go for their life, not ended the way it it ended. 10 year old Jordan Garcia's family remembered him as a happy boy who loved football. He and 21-year-old Kaya May Scott were killed Saturday night. Days later, hundreds showed up, balloons in hand to the football field he practiced on. I don't think it hit me as I'm. I don't want it to hit me. I never knew that my son had so much love and like the lady said, it takes a village to raise a child, and I really appreciate that everybody came out. The football field at Valsburg Park, a reminder of a future cut short. The football was gonna be his life. I'm pretty sure he would have made it. That boy got his jersey the first time, and he never took it off. Jordan's 11 year old brother was one of the three injured. His mother says he was in attendance Tuesday night. As for the shooters, they remain on the loose. A law enforcement source tells me police recovered a car involved in the shooting after a chase Monday night. Police also arresting two people, but not for their involvement in the shooting. A source saying two weapons were recovered as well. Meantime here at the football field, the message from the crowd loud and clear. Until today and until justice is served, you don't have a feeling. Officials are releasing new information today after a weekend shooting killing two people, including a 10-year-old boy, and another young student was injured in that gun violence. News 12 New Jersey's Lauren D is in Newark, where officials say this incident is going against what a downward trend of crime in the city. Officials calling this a dark weekend for Newark. Multiple shots were fired, killing two people as they still search for the shooter or shooters. OK. This will never be OK. This is not normal. It will never be normal. Officials identifying the two killed 10-year-old Jordan Garcia and 21-year-old Kaya May Scott. The three injured an 11-year-old boy, Jordan's brother, and 60-year-old Shepherd Miller. Both in stable condition. 19 year old Massy Rogers is in critical condition. To hear the yelling and the wailing of those mothers in the hospital is something that I will never forget. That pain felt by students and staff at Chancellor Avenue Elementary. Watching kids come out of the classroom crying was very difficult for me, uh, very, very difficult. Newark Public schools providing grief counseling and support as they mourn the loss of one of their students and pray for the recovery of another. there's a lot more work to be done. Uh, there are too many guns on the street. Uh, folks have too much access to guns, uh, in our communities, uh, and we absolutely have possibly have to do something about that. This is a heinous crime. It is something that's against the trend. The individuals involved know what they did. We are coming. There's no hiding. There's no running. Turn yourselves in before we come knocking on your door. And trust me, you know the door won't slow us down. And officials are also asking the community to come forward with information. The Essex County Sheriff's Office is offering an up to $10,000 reward in Newark, Lauren D, News 12, New Jersey.
