A taste of Hawaii came to the Jersey Shore as a Wall Township coffee shop celebrated the anniversary of Hawaii becoming the nation's 50th state.
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii marked the occasion by offering free hot or iced coffee to customers who stopped by wearing Hawaiian shirts.
"Hawaii is one of the best exporters of coffee beans of the highest qualities," said General Manager Dan Larocca.
The shop's name also has a connection to Hawaii's coffee history.
"The reason why it's called Bad Ass is because the donkeys that used to carry the beans from the hills were called the 'bad ass' ones," Larocca said.
To mark the anniversary, customers sporting Hawaiian shirts were rewarded with a free drink.
"To celebrate, if you come in wearing a Hawaiian shirt you'll get a free coffee to celebrate the Hawaiian heritage," Larocca said.
The promotion was offered at the company's two local locations.
