Parents and relatives with young kids took to Fordham Road Monday, taking advantage of the holiday for some last-minute back-to-school shopping for the essentials.

"I'm always here and when I take my niece she always get a dress, so she got a blue one today," said shopper Sharnelle, a sentiment echoed by her 4-year-old niece Secret, who told News 12 her new blue dress was her favorite out of all her school clothes.
Others tell News 12 they were on the hunt for school uniforms, backpacks and shoes that matched the dress code.
"I always come here because, you know the prices are helping, and I have so many grandkids to shop for," said shopper Bernadette.
But store owners say they don't expect those lines to die down after the holiday, as the whole week rivals Christmas, for their busy season.
"It is quite packed, and in the evenings its more busy, the week we see a lot," said owner of clothing store Kid City Mojib Ullah.
