A 7-month-old girl was killed in a shooting in Bushwick Wednesday afternoon, after being hit by a stray bullet while sitting in a stroller. It happened around 1:20 p.m. at the corner of Moore Street and Humboldt Street. Police say two people were riding a moped through the area — going the wrong way down the street — when the person in the back pulled out a gun and started shooting. At the time, several adults and children were outside on the corner. The baby was struck in the head by a stray bullet. Police say her father rushed her to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, but she did not survive. She was pronounced dead a short time later. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related. The scene quickly turned chaotic. A nearby worker told News 12 the moment the baby’s mother realized what had happened. “When she looked to the stroller and saw the baby bleeding, she went crazy and left,” the worker said. “Bullet in the head, and a lot of milk in the mouth.” After the shooting, the two people on the moped sped off but crashed just a few blocks away. Police say the passenger — believed to be the shooter — was thrown from the bike and later taken to the hospital. He is now in custody in connection to a separate case as investigators work to determine his role in this shooting. The driver of the moped is still on the run. Police describe him as a young man last seen wearing gray pants, a white T-shirt and a black mask, with long hair. He was last seen heading toward the Marcy Houses. The moped used in the shooting has been recovered, and investigators say they are using K-9s and other resources to track the driver’s movements.
