It was a centennial celebration for a local hero.
Daniel "Danny" Zamier celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday at Bristal Assisted Living in West Babylon. Zamier served in the underground forces during the formation of the Israeli Army post-World War II, and was joined Wednesday by four generations of family and friends.
Zamier came to the U.S. after marrying his American sweetheart, Vivien, whom he met in Israel. They were married for 54 years and have two children, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He said his family was key to helping him make it to 100.
"My secret is love," Zamier said. "I have a nice family. I am very lucky in love, maybe lucky in life."
