A pilot program that suspended alternate side parking rules on select streets in Prospect Heights has come to an end after city officials deemed the effort unsuccessful.
The program ran from the beginning of August through the end of September, giving residents a chance to park without moving their vehicles during scheduled street-cleaning periods.
According to the Department of Sanitation, vehicle compliance dropped from 73% to 62% during the pilot.
Officials also issued 913 summonses despite having fewer enforcement days.
The department says reduced compliance made it harder for street sweepers to effectively clean roadways.
As a result, the pilot will not continue, and the area's regular alternate side parking rules have been reinstated.
