Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Friday that New Jersey has secured more than 1,000 free tickets to FIFA World Cup 2026 matches for residents, including 250 tickets donated by Airbnb that will be distributed to children through nonprofit organizations across the state.
The latest donation follows an earlier announcement of 770 free tickets provided through a partnership involving Hackensack Meridian Health, Uber and the FIFA World Cup 2026 New York/New Jersey Host Committee.
The 250 Airbnb tickets will be distributed through the Raritan Bay Area YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey and Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey.
Sherrill said the initiative is aimed at ensuring the World Cup is accessible to residents regardless of their ability to afford tickets.
The ticket giveaway builds on Airbnb’s previously announced $1 million commitment to fund soccer mini-pitches in New York and New Jersey and support community celebrations during the tournament.
State officials said the effort is part of broader plans to expand access to the economic, cultural and community benefits associated with the World Cup, which will bring several matches, including the final, to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
According to a Deloitte analysis cited by the governor’s office, Airbnb hosts in the New York-New Jersey region are expected to accommodate about 25,000 guests during the tournament period, generating an estimated $288 million in economic output and supporting more than 1,100 full-time equivalent jobs through 2026.
