Activists are calling for an apology and an impartial investigation after several people were arrested during an anti-ICE protest in Atlantic City Saturday. A fight broke out during the demonstration near the Atlantic City Public Safety Building. Police say protesters blocked access to Atlantic Avenue and refused to move.
Video from the scene shows officers handcuffing several people in the crowd.
Protest organizers, however, dispute the police department’s account of what happened and are speaking out against the arrests. They are calling for an apology and an independent investigation into the incident. Atlantic City’s mayor described the situation as unfortunate. The mayor’s office said that while city officials may disagree with some of the tactics being used, the city does not have jurisdiction over federal law enforcement operations.
