News 12 has obtained 911 calls to the Garwood Police Department from the parents of a teen facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed two other teens in Cranford in September.
News 12 submitted an open records request to the borough of Garwood for the calls. The 911 calls appear to show escalating hostility in the home.
While the Union County Prosecutor’s Office has not officially named 17-year-old Vincent Battiloro as the suspect in the deaths of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas, court records do show Vincent Battiloro as the driver charged with vehicular offenses related to the crash.
Officials say Niotis and Salas were riding an e-bike on Sept. 29 when they were run down. Both died from their injuries.
The 911 calls that News 12 obtained happened prior to the crash. Jeffrey Battiloro, Vincent’s father, is heard reporting a juvenile issue where the person had gotten physical. Jeffrey Battiloro stated that the juvenile sprayed him in the face with mace and then took his car.
In a second call, Jeffrey Battiloro stated the juvenile was getting physical.
At this point, there is no indication that the teen will be tried as an adult in the fatal crash. The 60-day-deadline for prosecutors to file a motion to transfer the case from family to criminal court has passed.
