A senior citizen is safe after downed wires sparked flames outside of her home in Nassau County late Saturday night.
Fourth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call around 11 p.m. for a residential house fire on Harding Street in Oceanside.
Upon arrival, it was determined a utility pole with wires had fallen, and flames were coming out of the side of the residence, Nassau police say.
The officers used a fire extinguisher from inside one of their patrol cars to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
Once they gained entry into the home, an 84-year-old woman was located and brought out safely.
The Oceanside Fire Department assisted at the scene.
No one was hurt.
