6 injured after 80,000-pound tanker crashes into Washington Borough bagel shop
Six people inside a Warren County bagel shop were hospitalized Thursday morning after an 80,000-pound tanker truck collided with a car and plowed into the business, according to police.
Emergency crews responded to Route 31 near Youmans Avenue in Washington Borough around 10:26 a.m. on Oct. 22 following reports of a severe vehicle crash into Muheisen’s Bagel & Deli.
A preliminary investigation by the Washington Township Police Department revealed that a blue Audi, driven by a 52-year-old Hopewell man, was traveling northbound on Route 31 when it changed lanes directly into the path of a northbound tanker truck.
Following the impact, the tanker truck—driven by a 73-year-old Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania man—crossed the centerline, left the roadway, and slammed directly into the front entrance of the deli while patrons and staff were inside.
Six individuals who were inside Muheisen’s Bagel & Deli at the time of the crash were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither driver reported injuries at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by local authorities.
