A 3-year-old by is in critical condition after a car accident last night in Claremont.

Police responded to a collision at 3rd Avenue and East 172nd Street at around 840 p.m.

Investigators say a 2023 Ford van operated by a 37-year-old man, was traveling south bound on 3rd Avenue when it collided with a 2007 Honda civic that was also turning into the same intersection.

When the vehicles collided the Honda Civic rolled onto its passenger side.

Inside the Honda civic was a 24-year-old operator, a 28-year-old woman in the passenger seat, in the rear a three-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

The 28-year-old woman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition and the three children were taken to Columbia Hospital. The three-year-old is in critical condition. The two other children are in stable.

The 37-year-old operator of the Ford van was also taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK.

There are no arrests at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
