Some residents at the Kenney Apartments in Newburgh say their heat has finally come back on, but many questions and concerns remain after city inspectors issued multiple citations to the property.

Resident Gaylord Geter says his apartment only received heat within the last day after going without it since October. He and others are questioning how service could suddenly be restored after months of complaints.

City officials have also condemned three apartments at the complex, citing serious health and safety concerns.

Residents report additional problems, including raw sewage backing up into tubs, lack of hot water and other unsafe living conditions. One senior citizen, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, showed News 12 her radiator, which was still cold to the touch. Another resident says her family uses the oven to warm their apartment so her mother does not freeze.

News 12 attempted to contact Bourne & Kenney Development, the owner and manager of the property, but found no one at the listed office and received no response to multiple calls and emails.

Residents plan to bring their concerns to the Newburgh City Council meeting on Monday night.
