Three teens from Bed-Stuy opened the bakery of their wildest dreams.
Dreams of Sugar was made possible thanks to the help of their mom, who turned their pandemic-born passion for baking sweet treats into a reality.
The only thing sweeter than their cotton candy cupcake is the Finner family's story.
Jayla Finner, 17, is a co-owner of Dreams of Sugar bakery.
She enthusiastically describes one of her own creations - the "Brookie" - a combination of a cookie and brownie all in one.
“You see all the layers, chocolate chip cookies, brownie, and the Oreo. Everyone loves our Brookies," she said.
Her younger 13-year-old twin sisters, Jacie and Joie, also help out and specialize in baking homemade cookies, puddings and ice cream.
Their mom, Jamie Rice, inspired their love for baking during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Some people may not believe it, but they are 17, and the twins are 13, but they do so much, everything. I wouldn't be able to run this business without them... They do even the recipes I can't do like cinnamon rolls and cookies.” Rice said.
Their bestseller is the strawberry lemonade cupcake, a combination of sweet with a sour twist.
They plan to expand their business soon to serve coffee along with more sweet treats.
