A West Windsor man died after his vehicle left the roadway and went into water in Lawrence Township, police said.
Lawrence Township police said officers responded around 11:07 p.m. Thursday to Brunswick Pike northbound at the Kelly Viaduct, near the entrance to Quakerbridge Mall, for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Police said a witness reported hearing what sounded like a crash and then saw a dark-colored vehicle in a nearby body of water. Responding officers confirmed the vehicle had left the roadway and was submerged.
The Trenton Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team entered the water and found the vehicle’s sole occupant, identified as 22-year-old Rickey Boone Jr., of West Windsor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found Boone was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V north on Brunswick Pike when he lost control, left the roadway and entered the water, police said. No other vehicles were involved.
Boone was a former basketball player at Mercer County Community College. The school said on Facebook "The impact he made in his short time will never fade. Those who had the honor of meeting Rickey all would agree he was beam of light who carried positivity with him everywhere."
