Two women were killed and another was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Toms River Saturday night, according to New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash around 9:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes near milepost 87.
A preliminary investigation found that a Genesis was disabled in the center lane, with a Freightliner tractor-trailer stopped behind it.
Police said Caryn J. Coon, 22, of Forked River, was driving a Honda northbound when she struck the rear of the tractor-trailer. Her vehicle then ran off the road to the right and traveled down a grassy embankment.
A Ford SUV driven by Amanda K. McHenry, 32, of New York City, then struck the rear of the tractor-trailer, police said.
The crash killed Coon and Lauren J. Maturo, 32, of Syosset, New York, a passenger in the Ford SUV.
McHenry sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. The tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries.
No other injuries were reported at the scene.
