What started as a stop at Lowe’s turned into a violent carjacking in Mill Basin — and now police are asking for help finding the people behind it. Investigators say it happened Wednesday just after 4:20 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Lowe’s on Avenue U. A 72-year-old woman and a 48-year-old woman were loading items into their Toyota Corolla when four young men walked up. Police say one of them got into the driver’s seat and drove off. As the car pulled away, it hit the 72-year-old woman, who was sitting on her walker, and knocked the other woman to the ground. Three of the men took off in the stolen car. A fourth left in a black Nissan. Both women had minor injuries and did not go to the hospital. Police released video showing the four men walking near the store’s garden center before the car was taken. Investigators say that’s the group they’re trying to identify. News 12 also saw multiple security cameras throughout the parking lot, which could help piece together exactly what happened. Right now, police say the group is believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, and they’re still trying to track them down.
