2 people killed in fiery Jackson Township crash
Two people were killed when a vehicle crashed into a tree and burst into flames Sunday in Jackson Township. According to police, the crash happened around 12:08 a.m. The department initially received a report of a transformer down in the roadway.
"Shortly after, multiple calls began to come in reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle that had driven off the roadway and into a tree," police said in a statement.
When officers arrived at the location, they found a car fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was later determined to be a black 2023 Toyota Highlander with two people inside.
"Officers on scene attempted to extricate the two individuals found inside of the vehicle but efforts were unsuccessful," police said.
Once crews extinguished the fire, they determined that both occupants of the Toyota were deceased. Police have not yet identified the victims or their ages.
The crash remains under investigation.
