Officials say two men are facing federal charges in the shooting of an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer under the George Washington Bridge last weekend.
Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, is facing one count of possession of ammunition by someone unlawfully in the country, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Aybar Berroa, 22, is charged with accessory after the fact, which carries a maximum of 7 1/2 years in prison. Both are Dominican nationals.
Federal officers say the suspects shot an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer in the face and arm before taking off on a moped Saturday.
News 12 has been told Nunez came to the U.S. illegally in 2023 and was released under the Biden administration policies.
