2 dead, 90+ tenants displaced by Plainfield apartment fire
A fire at a Plainfield apartment building overnight killed two people and displaced more than 90 tenants.
The City of Plainfield did not release the identities of the victims.
The fire happened at 24-unit apartment building located at 308 W Front St. just after 1 a.m.
Residents told News 12 that they woke up to the smell of smoke and started running to get out.
The fire appears to have caused interior damage to the building along with several broken windows.
A team of disaster responders from the Red Cross were called to help provide shelter for those impacted.
It was not immediately clear how the fire started.
