Aiden Sterlin isn’t your typical high school graduate.
While many of his peers are just beginning to think about their next chapter, the 18-year-old is already running a booming taco spot in Park Slope.
Sterlin is the owner of Tacos del Barrio, a fast-growing taqueria tucked inside Park Slope.
On any given day, you’ll find him behind the counter during the lunch rush, calling out orders and crafting everything from tacos al pastor to corn ribs.
He launched the business back in March after a chance conversation at the gym led to an unexpected opportunity.
“They said, ‘Hey, we’ve got a space in Brooklyn. We want you to come up with a concept, give us pretty much every penny to your name, and legit do your thing,’” he recalled.
Since then, Sterlin has poured himself into the restaurant, all while finishing high school.
With his diploma finally in hand, he says he’s ready to go all in.
“Now I can put 101% into this, rather than the 100% I was putting here and the other 100% into school,” he said.
Sterlin says his next step is opening a second location in September.
His advice for other young people chasing big goals?
“If you’re thinking about a 9 to 5, go for it. But don’t let that limit your creativity or your freedom," he said.
