Officials say one person has died and 11 others were injured, including four firefighters, after a fire ripped through two apartments in Morris Heights.

The FDNY responded to the fire at 1484 Montgomery Ave. at 7:45 a.m.

The fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor and extended to an adjoining apartment.

The fire escalated to a two-alarm fire at 8:20 a.m.

One person was transported by EMS to Jacobi Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries, but they later died of their injuries.

Another person is in critical condition. Fire officials say that person jumped from a window trying to escape.

All four firefighters that were injured are expected to recover.

About 141 fire and EMS personnel responded to the flames. The department of environmental protection has been notified.

Crews are still on scene.
