One person was hospitalized after a house fire Monday morning in Bensonhurst.
Citizen App video showed firefighters on the back steps and roof of a two-story house on 59th Street between 21st Avenue and Bay Parkway.
The FDNY said the fire started shortly before 8:45 a.m. and was under control within about 40 minutes.
“I hear somebody knock on my door,” said Isaac, of Bensonhurst. “A guy says, ‘Go out! Go out! There’s a fire in the next house.’”
“You could smell it as I opened the door,” said Anita De Mattia, of Bensonhurst.
The FDNY said one person was taken to Staten Island Hospital with minor injuries.
A neighbor told News 12 that the victim was a tenant who lives in the apartment where the fire started.
“He tried to put out the fire, and he burned his hand,” said De Mattia.
News 12 was told that the homeowner was not home when the fire broke out.
The Red Cross registered one household of three adults for emergency assistance.
