One person was killed in a fire that broke out inside a Crown Heights apartment early Wednesday morning, according to the FDNY.
Fire officials said the call came in at 8:11 a.m. for reports of smoke and fire at 1528 Bedford Ave., near Lincoln Place. The fire started on the third floor of the four-story, 12-unit building.
Neighbors said they heard smoke alarms go off and saw smoke pouring out of the apartment.
Sixty firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Crews got the fire under control by 8:48 a.m., officials said.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire remains under investigation by fire marshals. No other injuries were reported.
