The Connecticut inspector general released the preliminary report of last week’s deadly Stamford armed standoff.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on the human remains found in the room across the hall from Jed Parkington’s body. The cause of death has been ruled as a homicide from “blunt impact injuries of head and torso with gagging.” That victim’s identity has not been released.
The Medical Examiner determined Jed Parkington, 63, died by suicide. They say his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and neck.
The report says on Dec. 2 around 9 a.m., after the Connecticut state marshal attempted to evict the Parkington’s from 263 OakLawn Ave., he answered the door, pushed his wife outside and asked authorities to “take her someplace safe, this is not going to end well.”
Stamford police, along with the Stamford Hostage Negotiation Team, Stamford Special Response Team and the Stamford Bomb Squad were called to the scene.
The marshal says Parkington barricaded himself inside the home – armed with loaded firearms. A negotiator was able to talk with him on the phone but couldn’t get him to stand down.
Drone footage captured at the scene shows concrete blocks, furniture and stacks of books up against windows. At one point, Parkington attempted to shoot down a police drone.
The inspector general says three police officers fired shots at Parkington – none of which hit him. Two officers shot from inside a Bearcat, one officer shot from a neighbor’s porch.
At around 3:35 p.m., officers say they heard a single gunshot from inside the home. A drone was flown inside and found the shooter dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The report says drone footage also found grenades, a pipe bomb and several other “improvised” explosive devices.
