Cellphones stolen from across the tri-state area were connected to an international shipment theft ring, sources tell News 12.
The ring was busted Tuesday following a search in The Bronx.
According to federal prosecutors, the ring involved a system used to find companies' tracking numbers for smartphones and other electronic devices. They say employees of one of the companies took bribes to give out customer information, including names, tracking numbers and delivery addresses.
Federal prosecutors say the stolen packages were then sold.
A total of 13 people from parts of New Jersey, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan are facing charges. If convicted, some face up to 20 years in prison.
