A Bronx man was arrested Friday for attempting to scam an 83-year-old South Farmingdale resident, according to police.
Authorities say 24-year-old Cristhian Ortega Rodriguez called the victim, claimed to be his grandson and asked for bail money.
The victim later realized it was a scam and contacted police. Following an investigation, detectives arrested Ortega as he tried to pick up the cash.
Police say the suspect refused to comply with verbal commands when he was apprehended. He now faces multiple charges including grand larceny and resisting arrest.
