One person was killed and four were injured following a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning in Orange, police say.
At 1:33 a.m., Orange police were notified of a wrong-way driver on Route 34 near the Merritt Parkway interchange.
A witness told police a dark colored Honda Civic was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the divided road. The witness told police that the Honda was in a head-on crash with a BMW SUV near the intersection with Baldwin Road.
Police say the driver of the Honda was extricated out of the car and later died at Yale New Haven Hospital. The unidentified man was the sole occupant of the car.
Four people inside the BMW were also taken to Yale with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The eastbound lanes of Derby Avenue were closed for several hours but reopened at 5 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Denny Peterson at dpeterson@orange-ct.gov or 203-891-2130, ext. 8216.
