Business owners in Pleasantville voiced their concerns Tuesday morning with the construction taking place on Manville Road ahead of the busy holiday season.
"We make at least thirty percent of our business between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so to lose a week in there is enormous," said Ivy Ronquillo, owner of Second Mouse Cheese Shop.
The construction is being done to repair the pavement and make sidewalks more accessible.
Root2Rise, another eatery on the street, says they've already taken a thirty to forty percent hit to business in the past two days.
Owner Michael Kagan, says this is not the first time the village has done construction before the holiday season.
"This is the second year in a row. Exactly the same situation where they're tearing up the streets. Last year, it was the entire sidewalks. During the Spring would've been better instead of the holiday season."
We spoke to Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer who said the delays on the road's construction were caused by external factors...One being that the state owns the road, not the Village of Pleasantville.
He hopes construction is finished no later than this Friday.
Other local businesses on Manville Road said they hope that with the new road, comes more parking spaces.
