A 21-year-old man was shot in Coney Island, the NYPD says.

The shooting unfolded on the corner of West 31st Street and Mermaid Avenue just after 8 p.m. Monday.

Police say the man was struck in the right thigh.

Citizen app footage from the scene shows a gray Acura sedan that crashed into a utility pole. The FDNY says the crash is part of a police investigation.

Paramedics took the victim to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn, where he is expected to recover, according to the NYPD.

Police could not confirm the connection between the crash and the gunfire as of Monday evening. They say the victim is not being cooperative.
